ALBUM REVIEW: Sam Coffey and the Iron Lungs Self-titled Debut

If you’re looking for some raw, tough-love music to complete your summer shenanigans soundtrack, Sam Coffey and the Iron Lungs might be just what your mp3 player has been missing. This up-and-coming band from Waterloo/Toronto provides the perfect backdrop to a Lords Of Dogtown-esque montage complete with sunflares and skinned knees. Their unapologetic musical style features blues, country, pop and punk influences – it’s the kind of music that makes you want to go adventuring.

The group mentions the Rolling Stones, Fugazi, and the Black Lips as musical influences and that’s no surprise when you hear some of the unabashed bluesy strummings on tracks like Nashville and Rick James Blues. There are some harder tracks as well, like Have a 100 and Smack My Bitch Up where Sam Coffey digs in and teaches his listeners exactly what “iron lungs” means.

Sam Coffey and The Iron Lungs’ self-titled debut album is available via Evolve Records.
